The white stuff ? The Full Moxie:: Celebrity, Entertainment, DIY ...

It?s finally spring on the East Coast, temperatures are rising, people are wearing less layers and I thought I had escaped the white stuff. And then I opened my latest issues of ?Harper?s Bazaar? and saw that, no, I had not. Every designer and their mother is featuring some blindingly bright white dress, suit, pant, shirt, skirt, shoe or other clothing item. Apparently it?s no longer restricted to weddings and those sunny days between Memorial and Labor Day weekends. So aside from keeping it separate from your red in the wash, here are some tips on how to rock this unexpected color:

DO be very aware of your skin tone. Unfortunately, bright white does not look good on everyone. The lighter your skin tone, the harder it is to work white into your wardrobe. If you?re pasty from months indoors (like moi), try some of spring?s other exciting ?in?colors instead (salmon and aqua are also really big this April). OR stick to accessories. Try white sandals, chunky bracelets, earrings or hairpieces; they?ll compliment a lot of other spring colors, and you?ll still be trendy (and you?ll spend less money!).

DON?T wear all white, form-fitting, full body coverage unless you?ve spent your winter living at the gym and are rockin? a hot figure. Unlike black, white is not slimming. So if you find yourself some bright white hot pants or a tube top be aware (and honest) with what you got goin? on. If you want to work this color into some of your major wardrobe pieces (dresses, tops, etc.), but haven?t been as religious in your worship of the treadmill, try peasant top or a flowy dress which doesn?t call too much attention to your waist or thighs or any other part of your body you?d rather not show off.

DO go with textured fabrics. Flat white can get a little boring and will show dirt the easiest. When investing in new white clothing, look for textured fabric or pieces with beading or eyelets or ruffles. These will not show dirt as well and the texture will also keep you from looking flat and blending in with the walls.

DON?T wear white on any old day! Even textures will show some dirt so be aware of where you are going and what you are doing. Day at the office or classy bridal/baby shower? Appropriate time for a white skirt. Day spent running around, doing errands, jumping in and out of your car and shuttling children about? Likely to be a little more dirt-filled and therefore a good day to try another color.

Amanda is a starving artist attending graduate school in Washington, DC where she is studying to get her Masters of Fine Arts in Playwriting. Despite her fashion prowress, she is secretly a total nerd and when not locked in a theatre teching a production, or in a library writing her latest play, she is probably reading a really ?bad? urban fantasy novel.
